There is more to being ready than preparation. You can be prepared for the worst case scenario, have all the tools and training, but readiness also includes the ability to bring the training to bear, to quiet the adrenaline and anticipation that has built up in our minds, and keep them out of the way or our reactions. Readiness includes willingness in a way that “preparedness” doesn’t have to. To put it another way, we all know what we’re prepared to do, but we don’t know what we’re ready to do until it is time to act.
